Justice with John Carpay

Defending Parental Rights in New Brunswick

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms Season 5 Episode 16

John Carpay and I start by discussing the Canadian Civil Liberties Association's constitutional challenge to a New Brunswick school policy requiring that parents of children under 16 be notified when their child undergoes a gender transition at school. Then, we discuss a recent poll showing that a majority of Canadians are now concerned with threats to freedom of expression. Following that, we talk about the recent Notwithstanding Clause controversy. We conclude our discussion with the case of Red Deer Catholic school board trustee Monique LaGrange, who was forced to resign because of her social media posts. In a Judicial Review, a lawyer for the board said LaGrange had an obligation to "communicate inclusively."
